local Theater Group Announces Auditions for New play, “Just Kids”
A staged reading of “Just Kids,” a new dramatic work exploring the complexities of friendship, ambition, and self-destruction within the acting world, will hold auditions in the coming weeks. The production seeks a diverse cast to bring to life six distinct roles: Mateo, Nathan, Christina, Dylan, Rachel, and an Auditioner/Therapist.
This opportunity arrives as local arts organizations seek to revitalize live performance and engage emerging and established talent. “Just Kids” promises a raw and intimate portrayal of artists grappling with success, failure, and the sacrifices made in pursuit of thier passions.Rehearsals are slated to begin in early October 2025, with performances scheduled for mid-November. A minimum of two stage readings will precede the show dates, allowing for collaborative development of the script and character work.
Character Breakdown:
* Mateo: A Latino male, a rising actor battling alcoholism and questioning the cost of his achievements.
* Nathan: A White male, a former actor now playwright, wrestling with Mateo’s success and unrequited feelings.
* Christina: Open to all races/ethnicities, a former artist who has compromised her own aspirations for others, serving as a cautionary tale of self-sacrifice.
* Dylan: Open to all races/ethnicities, Christina’s exploitative boyfriend, a charming but ultimately manipulative artist.
* Rachel: Open to all races/ethnicities, Mateo’s roommate and fellow actor, recognizing the performative nature of their careers.
* Auditioner/Therapist: any gender, any race/ethnicity.
