Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Targeting Smartphone AI Supremacy
September 24, 2025 – Qualcomm today announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a new mobile platform poised to redefine smartphone performance with a significant focus on artificial intelligence capabilities. The chip’s arrival signals a new era of on-device AI processing, promising faster, more efficient, and privacy-focused experiences for users.
The snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is already generating buzz among smartphone manufacturers. Xiaomi has confirmed plans to showcase devices powered by the new platform on September 25 in China, including the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Realme has also announced the forthcoming GT 8 Pro, slated for European release before the year’s end, will utilize the chip. Samsung is widely expected to integrate the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 into the Galaxy S26 Ultra, or at least a version of it, with a formal unveiling anticipated in January 2026.
This launch comes as smartphone makers increasingly prioritize AI features – from advanced camera processing and real-time language translation to personalized user experiences – and seek to deliver these capabilities directly on the device, rather than relying on cloud connectivity. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is designed to meet this demand, offering a substantial leap in AI performance compared to its predecessors.
