Uruguay Celebrates Music Throughout October with Nationwide Events
Montevideo, Uruguay – October is shaping up to be a vibrant month for music lovers across Uruguay, as the National Music Institute (Imus) presents a diverse program of concerts, festivals, exhibitions, and cultural gatherings. The initiative,celebrating Music Day,will bring performances to various locations throughout the country,supported by a broad coalition of national,departmental,and international institutions.
From lively street performances to intimate jazz festivals,the october agenda offers something for every musical taste. Here’s a highlight of key events:
October 1: A Day of Musical Celebration
* International Music Day in Sarandí: Kick off the month with the energetic sounds of La Ventolera, a celebrated Candombera band, at the Gurvich Museum (Sarandí 524, Montevideo) at 6:00 PM. This event, a collaboration between the Gurvich Museum, Imus, and the national Directorate of Culture, marks the third consecutive year of celebrating International Music Day in this vibrant public space.
* Giramúsica: Kokoa in Lavalleja: Head to the skate track in the La Rambla neighborhood of Minas, Lavalleja, at 9:00 PM for a performance by Kokoa as part of the Giramúsica series.
Throughout October (October 1-10): A Look Back at Musical Roots
* Exhibition: “The milonga is the daughter of the candombe as well as the tango is the son of the milonga”: Explore the interesting connections between Uruguay’s musical heritage at the Municipal Theater February 15 in Rivera. The exhibition is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
