STM Strike Disrupts Montreal Public Transit on Wednesday
Montreal commuters face continued disruptions to public transit on Wednesday as the strike by the Montreal Transport Syndicate (CSN) enters its next phase. Both metro and bus services will operate on a considerably reduced schedule, impacting travel throughout the day.
The strike, centered on concerns about maintaining the quality and reliability of public transit through the expertise of its workforce, will see metro service limited to peak hours – 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., 2:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., and 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Buses will not run between 9:15 a.m.and 3 p.m., and again from 6 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. This action affects anyone relying on public transportation for work, school, or essential travel on Wednesday. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday services will operate as usual, and “suitable transport will remain maintained at all times” during the strike, according to officials.
Union president Bruno jeannotte emphasized the long-term implications of the dispute, stating, “We hope that people understand that the fight we have today is for them tomorrow. We are fighting to keep public transport effective. The quality and reliability of services, it is indeed based on the expertise of people here.”
Negotiations between the union and the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) have been extensive, totaling over one hundred meetings. The CSN notes that, on average, public sector negotiations are resolved within 40 to 50 meetings.Commuters seeking more facts can consult a survival guide for the strike published by La Presse https://www.lapresse.ca/actualites/grand-montreal/2025-09-21/stm/guide-de-survie-pour-la-greve.php.
