Title: Trump Says Murdoch, Dell Could Lead U.S.-China TikTok Deal

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Donald Trump has suggested that Rupert Murdoch and Michael Dell could be involved in a potential deal to resolve concerns surrounding the Chinese-owned social media platform TikTok, according to a post on his Truth Social account September 21, 2025, at 10:17 PM EDT.The former president indicated the two business leaders might play a role in navigating a path forward for TikTok amid ongoing national security scrutiny from the U.S.government.

The proposal arrives as the biden administration continues to weigh options for TikTok, including a potential forced sale to an American company. A deal involving Murdoch, the owner of News Corp, and Dell, founder and chairman of Dell Technologies, could offer a pathway to address concerns about data security and potential Chinese government influence, while allowing the popular app to continue operating in the United States. This development follows Trump’s recent legal action against Murdoch and The Wall Street Journal in July, stemming from a report detailing his connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey epstein.

Trump’s post stated, “Murdoch and Dell could really do a great job with TikTok. They know what they are doing!” He did not elaborate on the specifics of their potential involvement or how such a deal might be structured.

The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) has been reviewing TikTok’s operations for several years, raising concerns about the app’s data collection practices and its relationship to the Chinese government. ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, has repeatedly denied allegations of sharing user data with Beijing.

In March 2024, Congress passed legislation that could lead to a nationwide ban of TikTok if ByteDance fails to divest its ownership stake within a specified timeframe. The law is currently facing legal challenges. The outcome of these challenges and any potential negotiations involving Murdoch and Dell will determine the future of TikTok in the U.S. market.
