Run Raises funds for Montana Sex Trafficking Survivors
BILLINGS, MT – A fundraising run hosted by Her Campaign, a Billings-based nonprofit, is gaining momentum in its effort to support survivors of sex trafficking in Montana. The campaign has currently raised approximately $100,000 to provide critical services for individuals impacted by this crime.
Montana lacks dedicated state funding for sex trafficking survivors, leaving organizations like Her Campaign reliant on community support to bridge the gap in available resources. The funds raised will directly benefit the nonprofitS programs, including its residential programme, and address the complex needs of those rescued from trafficking situations.
“Because the state of Montana does not have significant funds specifically for survivors of human trafficking, we rely on the support of our community to come alongside of this incredible gap that we see with the survivors,” explained Britney Higgs of Her Campaign.
last year, her Campaign served 125 survivors, many of whom have experienced additional trauma. According to Higgs, eighty-five percent of the women served by the institution have a history within the foster care system. The nonprofit addresses interconnected issues such as mental illness, substance abuse, and homelessness, all frequently present in the lives of trafficking survivors.
“Trafficking hits every single one of those areas,” Higgs stated. “We see acute mental illness, substance abuse disorders, homelessness, all of these issues that our society needs to come alongside and be able to help these people that are the most vulnerable.”
