trump Calls for Increased Prosecution of Opponents Following Virginia US Attorney’s Departure
Former President Donald Trump appeared too urge Attorney General Pam Bondi to intensify the prosecution of his political adversaries in a post on his Truth Social platform Saturday.
The post referenced the recent resignation of Erik Siebert, former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, announced on Friday. Trump claimed Saturday night that Siebert was “fired” and labeled him a “woke RINO” – Republican in name only.
Prior to his departure, Siebert had declined to pursue charges of mortgage fraud against New York Attorney General Letitia James. James has been a frequent target of criticism from Trump since initiating a civil lawsuit against his company, the Trump Association.
Responding to the situation, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt released a statement Saturday: “President Trump appreciates all Attorney General Bondi is doing to Make America Safe Again. The President wants justice and accountability for the many corrupt criminals and politicians who weaponized our justice system against him and his millions of patriotic supporters.”
