Royalty Fan Rick Evers Angered by On-Air Treatment from Wilfred Genee, Walks Off Set
Amsterdam, Netherlands – Royalty enthusiast Rick Evers reportedly left the set of the Dutch television program Vandaag Inside after presenter Wilfred Genee appeared to feign not recognizing his name during a live broadcast discussing Prinsjesdag (Prince’s Day). The incident, which occurred September 26, 2025, has sparked criticism of genee’s on-air conduct adn prompted a subsequent apology.
Evers, a frequent guest invited to comment on royal affairs, was initially invited to participate in the program’s “In the corridors” segment following the main broadcast. Though, when Genee stumbled over Evers’ name, asking “Where is ehh…,” before being prompted by political reporter Merel Ek, Evers immediately departed. Genee then described the moment as “so faint,” a remark Evers apparently found offensive.
The exchange unfolded after Genee initially joked about not remembering Evers’ name, stating,”It’s just a joke, but okay, then not.” The incident is the latest in a series of controversies surrounding Genee’s frequently enough-provocative interviewing style, which has previously included reading private emails on air. He has as apologized for past instances, including a previous incident involving RTL Tonight’s Carlo van Lienden and Angela de Jong.
Ek cautioned Genee about potential backlash, suggesting he offer another apology, referencing previous complaints about “silly jokes” and the reading of private correspondence.Genee conceded he “shouldn’t have done those two jokes,” but initially defended his actions with Evers as a harmless attempt at humor. The situation highlights the often-contentious dynamic between hosts and guests on live television and raises questions about the boundaries of acceptable on-air banter.
