Demolition of st. Francis Medical Center Sparks Community Meeting
TRENTON – Concerns over the demolition of St. Francis Medical Center have prompted Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora to schedule a public meeting on Wednesday, September 24th, at Trenton Central High School from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The meeting will provide residents with an possibility to directly address questions and concerns to representatives from Trinity health, the building’s owner, and Haines & Kibblehouse (HK Group), the demolition contractor. Dan moen of Trinity Health and Steve Schwartz, representing HK Group, will be present to answer questions regarding the project. (For more information, call 609-989-3052.)
The declaration follows the arrival of heavy equipment at the Chambers Street and Hamilton Avenue site this week, and growing anxieties about potential disruptions, including noise, traffic congestion, and environmental impacts from dust and debris. Residents have expressed frustration with a perceived lack of clarity from the Mayor’s office, Trinity Health, and HK Group regarding the demolition process.
Concerns center around pedestrian safety, particularly for students at Trenton Central High School, should sidewalk access on Chambers Street be impacted. Residents are requesting information on dust monitoring systems and their locations, as well as a clear schedule of daily demolition operations, given the area’s already challenging rush hour traffic.
The planned demolition has also raised questions about potential health impacts, leading some to call for proactive environmental safeguards and increased community engagement. The meeting represents a crucial step towards addressing these concerns and ensuring a smoother, more transparent demolition process for the surrounding neighborhood.
