Akure, Ondo State – operatives of the Ondo State Security Network, Amotekun, have arrested 51 suspected criminals across the state, including a previously convicted offender who escaped from the Okitipupa Correctional Facility. The arrests, conducted in various locations throughout Ondo’s 18 local government areas, signal an ongoing crackdown on criminal activity within the region.
The operation, led by Amotekun Rangers, dismantled a major kidnapping syndicate operating within Ondo State’s forests. This latest action builds on recent successes, with the Corps reporting a decline in major crimes due to intensified security efforts. The arrests encompass charges ranging from breaking the law and disturbing public order to major kidnapping and rape, underscoring the breadth of Amotekun’s focus on securing communities.
State Commander Adetunji Adetunji, who paraded the suspects in Akure, detailed the scope of the operation.”51 suspects have been arrested in various nooks and crannies and forests of the state, 37 breaking law and order, 6 major kidnapping suspects and one case of abuse, which is rape,” adetunji stated. “Consequently of the activities of the Amotekun rangers in the forest, we were able to dismantle a terrible kidnap syndicate.”
The rearrest of the escaped convict from Okitipupa Correctional Facility highlights amotekun’s commitment to apprehending repeat offenders. Commander Adetunji assured residents that the Corps will continue to prioritize the removal of criminals from both forested areas and local communities.
This action follows a previous report of seven arrests made by the Ondo State Amotekun Corps for offenses including kidnapping and armed robbery, further demonstrating a sustained effort to improve security across the state. The Corps reports a noticeable decrease in major crimes linked to these intensified operations.
