Google’s New Smart Speaker May Revive the ‘Google Home’ Name
A recently leaked detail suggests Google’s unannounced smart speaker, first spotted in August, may be called the “Google Home Speaker.” Code strings within version 3.41 of the Google Home for android app (via 9to5Google) indicate a potential return to the original “Google Home” branding, departing from the “Nest” label used in recent years.
The same APK teardown also points to a “360 audio” feature for the device, aligning with its spherical design.
Alongside the speaker news, further evidence supports the rebranding of Nest Aware to “Google Home Premium,” with Nest Aware Plus becoming “google Home Premium Advanced.” Descriptions within the code highlight features including AI-powered event descriptions, daily summaries, extended video history, intelligent alerts, and a voice-activated “Ask Home” function integrated into a redesigned app. The update also mentions E911 emergency calling.
These findings stem from an analysis of work-in-progress code and do not guarantee the final features or branding will be released to the public. The reported rebrand and new devices represent the first major nest refresh in years, as initially reported in late August.
