Predazzo, Italy - Austrian ski jumper Eva Pinkelnig is facing a potential end to her Olympic season after suffering a serious left knee injury during a training jump at the Predazzo Olympic hill on thursday, September 18, 2025. The fall occurred during the second round of a Summer Grand Prix test event.
The injury casts a shadow over Austria‘s team preparations ahead of the February Olympic Games, for which the Val di Fiemme ski jumps have recently been renovated. Pinkelnig, 37, had been showing promising form, and a critically important knee injury could prevent her from competing in the Games. Immediate transport to Austria for thorough medical evaluation is underway.
Pinkelnig fell after landing and remained on the slope, requiring assistance to leave the jump area. “She is not doing so well, she is still a bit in shock. we don’t know exactly yet. We are currently organizing that she comes to our doctors quickly and everything is checked out there,” said women’s head coach Thomas Diethart in an interview with ORF.
Diethart expressed concern about the severity of the injury, stating, “You have seen it ended up and the knee gave in. This is usually not a good sign.” He added,”This is the worst thing that can happen. It is very, very bad because she started to jump really well again last week and now do a good competition. That’s why it’s really the stupidest situation.”
