Nicole Khadivi’s sculptures of light and glass, currently featured in both a solo exhibition at the Uppsala Art Museum (“After Home”) and recalling a standout presence at Mejan’s exit exhibition last year, offer a compelling exploration of time, memory, and form. The artist’s moving works-oval glass panels slowly rotating to cast light and shadow-create immersive environments that are both ethereal and grounded.
Khadivi’s installations document shapes and sounds from locations as diverse as Turkish mahmutlar and the Sicilian ruin city of Poggioreale through layered engravings on glass. These subtle animations, while open to interpretation, possess a unique and persuasive quality. The Uppsala Art Museum exhibition marks Khadivi’s first institutional solo show, building on the momentum generated by her previous work and establishing her as a significant voice in contemporary art.
