Irish President Higgins Accuses Israeli Counterpart of Misleading Him ⁢on Gaza Aid Delivery

DUBLIN – Irish President Michael D. Higgins has publicly accused ⁤his Israeli counterpart, ​Isaac ‌herzog, of​ misleading him regarding the delivery of Irish aid into Gaza.‌ the accusation comes ‍amidst escalating international condemnation of Israel‘s actions‍ in the region and growing ‌calls for accountability.

Higgins, who is nearing the end‍ of his presidential term, voiced strong criticism of Israel and its⁣ supporters, stating⁣ that countries providing armaments too Israel should‍ be excluded‌ from ‌the United Nations. He‌ further asserted‌ that the European Union’s credibility is at stake⁤ if it fails to take action⁣ against Israel, accusing some member states of remaining⁢ silent ⁢in the face ⁢of a ⁣”man-made famine.”

The President’s remarks were made ⁢during his final appearance at the National Ploughing Championships in Screggan, Co Offaly, on Tuesday.​ He reiterated ⁣his stance that ​criticism​ of​ Israel is not inherently anti-Semitic.

Higgins’s comments follow the release of a UN commission of inquiry report concluding that Israel has committed⁣ acts of genocide in Gaza, wiht top ⁤officials, including Prime Minister ⁤Binyamin Netanyahu, ‌allegedly inciting these acts.the ⁤commission⁢ cited evidence including the scale of killings, aid blockages, forced displacement,‌ and‌ the destruction of infrastructure like a ⁢fertility clinic.

“There should be no hesitation any longer in ending trade ⁢with people ⁣who are inflicting this on our fellow human beings,” Higgins ⁣stated.

he also criticized the influence of wealthy individuals on democratic processes, stating, “The idea that‌ the richest people in the ​world can tell‍ people who⁣ they can elect, it should be taken head‍ on.”⁢ He emphasized ​the importance of ⁢respectful ​discourse and treating all ⁤individuals as equals.

Mr. Herzog is the grandson of the former chief rabbi to Ireland, Yitzhak HaLevi Herzog, and the son of former Israeli President​ Chaim ‍Herzog, who served between⁢ 1983 and 1993.
