Latvian hockey veteran Kaspars Daugavins has officially joined Mogo/RSU of the Optibet Hockey League (OHL), a month after appearing in Presidential Cup games with the Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF). The 37-year-old forward had been without a club following his time with Slovak Extraliga team Mikhalovce “Dukla,” where he announced his retirement last November before resuming training and competing in his 13th World Championship this year.
Daugavins brings a wealth of experience to Mogo/RSU, having played 98 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) and also having competed in leagues in Germany, Switzerland, Russia, the American Hockey League (AHL), the Ontario Hockey Junior League, and the Latvian Championship.
Mogo/RSU currently holds second place in the OHL standings with three wins from their opening Chester games, trailing only Liepaja, which recently returned to the top league after a multi-year absence. They are scheduled to face league-leading Liepaja in their next match.
The team is the defending champion of the league, having defeated Zemgale/LBTU in the final series last season.
