Oregon Metro RHCS Draft: Share Your Input on Housing Strategy

by Emma Walker – News Editor

Portland, OR – Residents of the Portland metropolitan area have an opportunity to shape the future of housing in the region through public feedback on a draft Regional Housing ‍Coordination Strategy (RHCS). ⁢Metro, the elected ⁢regional government, is seeking input on the plan, which aims to‍ address housing shortages and promote affordability across‌ city and county ‌lines.

The RHCS is a direct response to new requirements under the Oregon⁤ Housing Needs ⁢Analysis (OHNA) program, compelling ‌jurisdictions statewide to develop strategies for meeting state-set housing production targets.‍ Metro ⁢is uniquely ⁤positioned to⁣ coordinate these‌ efforts, and is required‍ to adopt a new RHCS ⁢every six years.

The draft strategy outlines proposed actions for increasing housing production, improving access to opportunity, and fostering housing⁣ affordability ⁤and choice. ‌The Metro Council is scheduled to vote on adoption by December 2025.

Public comment is being accepted through a survey, available at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BFMZ6HC. Individuals can also review the⁢ full ‌draft‍ strategy at⁢ https://www.oregonmetro.gov/public-projects/regional-housing-coordination-strategy. Feedback can be submitted via⁤ email to [email protected] or by ‌phone at 971-480-0817.
