Taiwanese gymnasts Tseng Wei-sheng and Tang Chia-hung secured silver and bronze medals respectively at the International Gymnastics federation (FIG) World Challenge Cup 2025 in Paris on Sunday, bolstering taiwan’s position in the lead-up to major upcoming competitions.
The success in Paris is particularly significant as the FIG World Challenge Cup series requires participation in all five events-with the three best scores counting towards annual rankings-making consistent performance crucial for overall title contention. Tseng’s performance places him as a strong contender for the annual title, while both athletes are now focused on preparing for the Asian Games in Nagoya in 2026 and the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships later this month.
Tseng, 26, claimed silver on the pommel horse with an average score of 13.916. His two attempts yielded scores of 13.933 (difficulty: 5.200, execution: 8.733) and 13.900 (difficulty: 5.200, execution: 8.700).Coach Lin Yu-hsin emphasized the mental fortitude required for the pommel horse, praising Tseng’s consistency against international competition. Lin stated they will continue refining Tseng’s technique and stability in planning for the 2026 Asian Games.
Tang Chia-hung earned bronze on the men’s horizontal bar with a total score of 14.366. Despite increasing the difficulty to 6.700, a slight balance error upon landing-resulting in a hand touching the ground-lowered his execution score to 7.666. Tang explained his decision to attempt more challenging movements was deliberate, aiming to push his routine’s boundaries.
Fellow Taiwanese gymnast Hung Yuan-hsi also competed, finishing sixth in the men’s parallel bars finals with a score of 13.266.
The gymnasts will now return to Taiwan to prepare for the National Games in October, with Tang also setting his sights on the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, which begin October 19 in Jakarta. The final FIG world Challenge Cup event will be held in Hungary from September 26-28.
