Italian Actor Pierfrancesco Favino Shines in Diverse Roles at Upcoming Film Festival
Adelaide, Australia – Italian actor Pierfrancesco Favino is garnering attention for his versatility and international appeal as the ST. ALi Italian Film Festival prepares to launch nationally. Favino’s recent work includes a memorable performance as Abbé Faria in the French blockbuster The Count of Monte Cristo,where his character mentors Dantès and reveals the location of a hidden treasure. He also appeared alongside Angelina Jolie in Maria, portraying her loyal assistant in a film depicting the later life of opera singer Maria Callas.
“Angelina was lovely and very generous,” Favino shared.”Pablo Larrain is a very captivating director and I thought it was a great script and I liked the movie very much. I think Angelina deserved to be nominated for an Oscar.”
Favino’s range extends to character roles like a well-off father in the French coming-of-age drama, Enzo. Currently, he expresses a focus on projects in italy and France, prioritizing roles that offer artistic fulfillment. “I’m looking for roles I’m happy to play,” he stated.”I don’t want to be forced to be in productions where I don’t think it’s going to bring me somthing as an actor,apart from,you know,being in international movies.”
The ST. ALi Italian Film Festival will showcase a variety of Italian cinema, including Paolo Genovese’s romantic comedy Somebody to Love, and Maura Delpero’s 2024 Venice Festival Grand Jury prize winner, The Mountain Bride, which explores themes of tradition and modernity during World War Two.
Other featured films include Sicilian Letters, starring Toni Servillo and Elio Germano, and Signorella: Little Miss, narrated by Greta Scacchi, which celebrates the contributions of Italian women to the australian community post-world War Two.
The festival will run from September 17 to october 14 at Palace Nova Eastend cinemas and Palace Nova Prospect Cinemas in Adelaide; September 24 to October 22 at Palace Barracks and Palace James Street in Brisbane; and September 25 to October 15 at Palace Cinema Byron Bay and Ballina Fair Cinemas.
