Morocco’s Truck Market: A Rising Force in the MENA Region
Data recently published by Indexbox reveals a dynamic truck market in Morocco, positioning it as a significant player within the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. In 2024, Morocco’s truck consumption reached 77,000 units, accounting for 10% of the total MENA market. This demonstrates significant growth, with the country registering an average annual increase of +9.6% in volume – making it one of the fastest-growing markets in the region, second only to turkey.
While Turkey dominates the MENA truck market with 322,000 units (43% of the total) and Saudi Arabia follows with 115,000 units (15%), Morocco secures a strong fourth position, surpassing Iraq (59,000 units) and Iran (44,000 units).
Morocco’s importance extends to truck imports as well. With an estimated 43,000 units imported in 2024, the country ranks third in the region, behind Turkey (101,000 units, 26%) and Saudi Arabia (69,000 units, 18%). Iraq (34,000 units), the United Arab Emirates (26,000 units), and Algeria (21,000 units) follow Morocco in import volume.
the MENA region consumed 742,000 trucks in 2024,with total imports reaching 393,000 units valued at $11.1 billion. Indexbox projects regional consumption to reach 793,000 units by 2035,representing a modest annual growth of +0.6%. The market value is expected to rise to $23.3 billion by 2035, with an annual increase of +0.8%, though both figures remain below peak levels recorded in 2013.
Despite growth, Morocco’s truck production remains relatively modest compared to regional leader Turkey. In 2024, total MENA production reached 597,000 units, with Turkey accounting for a substantial 456,000 units (76%). Iran contributed 78,000 units (13%), while Morocco’s production totaled 17,000 units, representing 2.9% of the regional total. Indexbox notes this production concentration highlights a structural dependence on imports for manny countries, including Morocco, to meet increasing demand.
The average price of imported trucks in the region was $28,000 per unit in 2024,a decrease of -15.4% from the previous year. light utility trucks, particularly diesel or semi-diesel vehicles under 5 tonnes, dominate both import (64%) and export (88%) flows, reflecting the logistical and urban transportation needs of the region.
