WTA Sao Paulo Final: Tjen vs. Rajaonah – Rising Stars Face Off

Sao Paulo will crown⁣ a first-time WTA champion on Sunday, as Indonesia‘s Janice Tjen and Madagascar’s Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah both secured victories in Saturday’s semifinals.

Tjen,⁣ 23, overcame great Britain’s Francesca Jones 7-6(0), ⁤6-3, in a one hour and 32 minute contest. The win marks a historic achievement, making Tjen‍ only the ⁣third Indonesian woman to reach a ‌WTA final in ⁢the Open Era. ‍After ‍a accomplished collegiate career at Pepperdine, Tjen is quickly making her mark on the professional ⁢tour.

The Indonesian fired eight aces and won an notable 89 percent of her⁤ first-serve ‌points⁢ during the‍ match.

Tjen boasts a 63-12 record across all levels of competition in 2025. This⁢ marks her second tour-level event,following her debut at the U.S. Open ​last month.

“It’s special,” Tjen shared after her victory. “It’s my first WTA tournament outside‌ of a Grand Slam, and‌ being able to reach the final is a bonus. But at the end of the day, it’s just another match⁤ so I’ll see how I ⁢do tomorrow.”

Standing between Tjen and the title⁣ is 19-year-old rakotomanga​ Rajaonah, who defeated Mexico’s Renata Zarazua 6-3, 6-2, ⁢in one hour and 20 minutes. The French teenager is competing in just her third main-draw appearance at tour level, and her first on a hard court surface.

Sunday’s final guarantees a new champion will be crowned. Regardless ⁢of ⁤the outcome, this week represents a career ⁣milestone for ‌both Tjen and Rakotomanga Rajaonah.
