‘The Boys’ Universe Expands: Creator Eric Kripke Hints at Promising Progress on Mexico Spin-off
The ever-expanding world of The Boys may soon include a new international chapter. Series creator Eric Kripke recently offered an encouraging update on the long-awaited Mexico spin-off,indicating the script is shaping up well and maintaining the established tone of the franchise. The potential series represents a significant expansion for Amazon’s hit superhero satire, tapping into new cultural territory and offering fresh storytelling possibilities within the established universe.
Announced in 2023, the Mexico iteration of The Boys is being penned by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (blue Beetle) and is expected to film on location in Mexico. While plot details remain undisclosed, the project boasts Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna as executive producers, with the longtime friends-previously co-stars in Alfonso Cuarón’s Y Tu mamá También (2001)-perhaps appearing in roles that are not expected to be central. kripke confirmed the spin-off’s world “meets the standard of all of our spin-offs,” describing it as “our world but a totally different tone” and “super fun.”
Currently, Amazon is developing multiple projects within The Boys franchise. Gen V Season 2 is set to premiere on September 17, and the prequel series Vought Rising is in progress alongside the animated spin-off The Boys Presents: Diabolical. Kripke recently wrapped production on the fifth and final season of the flagship series, The Boys, which is slated for release in 2026.
