BUDAPEST, HUNGARY – Austrian athlete Julia Mayer completed the marathon at the World Athletics Championships in 33rd place, battling challenging conditions to the finish line.
Mayer experienced cramping in the final kilometers of the race. “I was able to hold my pace for a very long time, only on the last few kilometers I got slight cramps from the calf to my thigh in my career,” she said.she praised the support team, noting, “The entire team was optimally cared for with ice, cap, drinks and gels at the catering sites.”
“It was a mega race,I am absolutely satisfied,” Mayer continued. “It is indeed just a great feeling if you can overtake so many competitors in the second half. The fact that it went so far up was surprised and makes me proud that a dream has come true.”
Other Austrian Results:

The feeling that I made it into the semi-finals is incredible, from the Entry list I was only in 43, now I’m among the top 24th.”
* Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the Olympic champion and pre-race favorite in the 1,500 meters, failed to qualify for the semi-finals, finishing eighth in his heat with a time of 3:37.84 minutes. He has been recovering from an Achilles tendon injury.
* Karin Strametz narrowly missed qualifying for the semi-finals in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing fourth in her heat with a time of 13.02 seconds – just three hundredths of a second off qualification. “I got out of the starting blocks very well, but I was too open when I also lost the time,” strametz said. “There was also a lack of aggressiveness…But if you qualify with a large ‘Q’ for the semi-finals with 12.99, then I am to blame.”
