Major Fire Damages School in Prévost, Quebec
Prévost, Quebec – September 12, 2025 – A critically important fire broke out at a school on the outskirts of Route 117 in Prévost, Quebec, this evening, prompting a large-scale response from regional fire services. The school, which serves approximately 400 students, sustained substantial damage.
The blaze has triggered immediate concern for the continuity of education for students in the Val-des-Monts area and prompted officials to mobilize a crisis team to assess the situation and determine next steps. Prévost Mayor Paul Germain stated around 9 p.m. via a Facebook video that the cause of the fire remains unknown, with investigations underway. Fire departments from Blainville to Sainte-adèle assisted in battling the flames.
According to mayor Germain, a crisis cell will convene tomorrow morning to evaluate the extent of the damage and formulate a plan to address the disruption to students’ schooling. The school service center is already actively involved in coordinating a response.
This incident comes after concerns were raised in January 2025 regarding a potential equipment malfunction in the school’s heating system. CIME-FM radio reported at the time that parents had voiced worries about unusual smells within classrooms and associated symptoms like headaches, heartache, and dizziness.
Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the fire to contact them via email or by calling 1 800-63SCOOP.
