Aerovironment’s GRIP TA5:⁢ Transforming tablets into Mobile Command⁣ centers

Aerovironment, Inc. (AV) has unveiled the GRIP TA5,⁤ an 8-inch tactical controller designed to enhance situational‌ awareness, precision targeting, ‍and scalable operations⁤ for modern⁢ soldiers. Developed for use with the Samsung ‍Tab Active5 Tactical Edition, the GRIP TA5 effectively transforms commercially available ⁣tablets into powerful, mobile command ‍centers.

This lightweight (1.13 kg ⁣/ 2.5 lbs) ⁣and rugged controller, certified to MIL-STD-810 standards, ⁢boasts a modular architecture and ‌cross-platform compatibility, enabling real-time control of multiple robotic systems. This considerably increases adaptability and ⁤responsiveness in‌ the field. The GRIP TA5 supports a ⁢wide range of‌ missions including Intelligence,Surveillance, and Reconnaissance ⁤(ISR),target acquisition and tracking,Command and Control (C2),and ⁢fire control – facilitating the operation of lethal payloads, loitering munitions, and direct-fire weapons.Advanced features include extended software security, ⁣cutting-edge network technologies, and hot-swappable capabilities.⁢ AV positions itself as a consistent control layer, self-reliant of the specific end-device utilized.

In May, ⁢AV announced a $5.1 million order from the US Army’s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO) as part of⁤ the Human-machine Integrated⁤ Integrated Formations (HMIF) program. The GRIP TA5 was specifically selected as⁤ the dismounted common controller (DCC) ‍to foster human-machine collaboration and strengthen battlefield leadership.⁤ ⁢ AV previously delivered prototype versions based on⁣ the Samsung ‍Tab ⁤Active3 for⁣ the US marine⁣ Corps’ Force Design 2030⁣ initiative.

Building on ⁢this prior experience, the GRIP⁣ TA5 offers the interoperability and multi-mission⁣ capabilities ‍required for US Army programs like ⁣Low Altitude Stalking and ⁤Strike ⁣Ordinance ⁢(Lasso), Long Range Reconnaissance (LRR), and⁣ Launched Effects (LE), while‌ also maintaining compatibility‍ with US Navy Corps programs such ‌as the Marine Air Ground Tablet (magtab). The GRIP TA5‍ expands ⁢AV’s Tomahawk Ground ‍Control station product line,‌ which also includes the GRIP S20 for ⁤the Samsung Galaxy ⁤S20 Tactical Edition. Responding to user⁤ feedback requesting larger displays, the GRIP ‌TA5 provides⁣ a robust, slim, ‍and cost-effective ⁣solution with the option to‍ connect⁣ two 8-inch displays for improved visibility and efficiency.

Deliveries of the GRIP TA5 are scheduled to begin in late ‌2025, available as ⁣a standard catalog configuration or as a customized option with AV platforms.
