Rhode Island and massachusetts Governors Condemn Shooting Death of Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island and Massachusetts officials swiftly condemned the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. The incident has sparked renewed calls for an end to political violence and a national conversation about safety for public figures.

The shooting of Kirk,a prominent voice in conservative circles,underscores a growing concern over escalating political tensions and the potential for violence.The responses from Rhode Island and Massachusetts leadership highlight the broad condemnation of such acts, regardless of political affiliation, and emphasize the need for a more civil discourse.

Governor Dan McKee of Rhode Island released a statement saying, “Political violence is unacceptable. The attack on Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University underscores that all voices deserve safety. our thoughts are with him, his family and everyone affected.”

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey echoed those sentiments,stating,”Violence has no place in our politics – ever.What happened to Charlie Kirk is horrific and we condemn it in the strongest possible terms. The growth of political violence in our country must be stopped.”

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley also issued a statement, adding, “My thoughts are with Charlie kirk and his family following today’s horrific attack. Acts of political violence should have no place in America. As a country, we need to do more. We cannot continue to allow senseless acts of gun violence to impact our communities.”
