PM Modi Expresses Concern to Qatar Emir Following Attack in Doha
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed India’s deep concern to Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani following the recent Israeli strike in Doha that resulted in casualties, including a member of Hamas‘s political bureau. the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of resolving the situation through dialog and diplomatic channels.During the phone conversation, PM Modi condemned the attack and reiterated India’s commitment to peace and stability in the region. He underscored India’s firm stance against all forms of terrorism and advocated for a return to negotiations to prevent further escalation of conflict.
“India firmly stands for peace and stability in the region, and also against all forms of terrorism,” a statement released following the call affirmed.
Reports indicate that five individuals were killed in the strike, including guards protecting Hamas leaders. The attack, a rare occurrence on Qatari soil, has drawn international condemnation as a violation of international law. Qatar has reported the death of one of its security officers and injuries to several others.
Qatar has condemned the attack, stating it targeted members of Hamas’s Political Bureau residing in Doha. The Gulf nation has been a key mediator in efforts to secure ceasefires and the release of hostages. PM Modi specifically praised Qatar’s ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability,including its role in facilitating ceasefires and hostage releases.
sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani thanked Prime Minister Modi for expressing solidarity. Both leaders reaffirmed the importance of the strategic partnership between India and Qatar and agreed to maintain close communication.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that the reports of the Israeli attack in Doha were viewed with concern, potentially impacting the regional security situation.The US administration has acknowledged informing Qatar about the impending strike, though it reportedly did not endorse the decision. According to reports, a spokesperson for the Trump administration stated that the US had informed Qatar of the planned attack. Following the strike, communication occurred between former President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but no criticism of the US ally was voiced. The Trump administration expressed hope that the incident would ultimately contribute to peace.
Israel has confirmed the strike, stating it targeted Hamas officials involved in ceasefire negotiations related to the Gaza conflict. Qatar remains a central ally in the peace process.
