Polish Military Intercepts Drones in Unprecedented Airspace violation
Warsaw, Poland – The polish Armed Forces confirmed Wednesday that they intercepted and neutralized multiple drones that violated Polish airspace. The incident, described by officials as an ”unprecedented violation,” occurred overnight as Russia launched a series of drone attacks targeting Ukrainian territory.
According to a statement released via X (formerly twitter) by the Polish Operational Command, Allied and Polish forces detected ”dozens of radar objects.” The commander authorized the neutralization of those deemed to pose a threat.”Some of the drones” were successfully downed, and authorities are currently working to locate the potential impact sites of debris.
The Polish military indicated that the drones were launched by the Russian Federation. The affected regions include the provinces of East Podlaquia, Mazovia, and Lublin, areas bordering Ukraine. In response to the ongoing military activity, residents in these provinces have been advised by the Polish command to remain at home.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk addressed the situation on X,confirming that an operation related to the airspace violations is underway. He stated he is in constant communication with the President and the Minister of Defense to coordinate the response.
Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz also took to X, emphasizing that Poland is maintaining “permanent contact with NATO command.” He urged the public to remain calm and rely on official announcements from military and state services for accurate facts.
This incident marks a significant escalation in tensions along Poland’s border with Ukraine. While Poland has consistently supported Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression, this is the first instance of a direct, albeit indirect, military incursion into polish airspace attributed to the conflict. The situation underscores the potential for the war in Ukraine to spill over into neighboring countries.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are providing updates as they become available. Further details regarding the type of drones involved and the extent of the damage, if any, are expected to be released in the coming hours.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
