Suicide Prevention: How to Help in Coventry & Warwickshire

Warwickshire Prepares for ⁢UK’s‍ First Suicide ⁤Prevention Week in September 2025

warwickshire residents will have ⁢access to enhanced ⁢support resources during the⁣ UK’s inaugural Suicide Prevention Week, launching September⁤ 7-13, 2025.‍ The initiative, spearheaded by local​ charity SOS Silence of Suicide, aims ⁢to foster ‍open conversations about suicide and connect individuals⁣ with vital mental ‌health⁤ services. The launch coincides with World ‌Suicide ​Prevention Day and underscores a ⁤growing commitment⁢ to‌ addressing a critical public⁣ health issue.

Recognizing that one‌ in four peopel experience suicidal ⁣thoughts during‌ their lifetime, Warwickshire County ⁢Council and local health organizations are reinforcing⁢ the message⁤ that help is available‌ and⁣ no⁣ one needs to suffer ⁤in silence. The week‍ will‌ serve as a focal⁣ point for ‌raising awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting proactive mental‌ wellbeing strategies.Cllr Anne-Marie sonko, Portfolio Holder for Social Care and Health at Warwickshire County⁣ Council, emphasized the importance of accessible support, stating, “We know that 1 in 4​ of us ‍have suicidal thoughts ⁢at some⁢ point​ during our lives. Here in Warwickshire our dedicated services are available to residents who​ are struggling with suicidal thoughts and poor mental health.”

Dr. ​Richard Onyon, Chief Medical⁢ Officer at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust (CWPT), added, “If you or someone you ‍know is struggling with their mental health, please know that you don’t have to go through it ‍alone and ⁢there​ is support available. CWPT supports everyone in ⁣seeking the mental health ⁤resources they deserve.”
