FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (September 9, 2025) – Northern Arizona University (NAU) Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Uri Farkas has been selected to serve on the NCAA Division I Track & Field/Cross Country Oversight Committee. The appointment, announced today, will see Farkas representing the Big Sky conference from August 2025 through August 2028, following a nomination by Commissioner Tom Wistrcill.
The NCAA Division I Track & Field/Cross Country Oversight Committee plays a crucial role in governing the sports at the collegiate level, responsible for selecting championship participants, establishing qualifying standards, and overseeing championship management across all divisions.
“I am humbled and honored to represent not just NAU and the Big Sky Conference, but also serve the great leaders and student-athletes in these sports,” said Farkas. “I am extremely excited to hit the ground running in this role.”
Big Sky Conference Commissioner Tom Wistrcill highlighted NAU’s consistent athletic achievements and Farkas’s administrative strengths. “Uri Farkas will be an excellent addition to the Cross Country/Track & Field Oversight Committee as a representative of Northern Arizona University and the entire Big Sky Conference,” Wistrcill stated. “NAU has a long, storied history of success in these disciplines, which makes Uri uniquely qualified to serve in this capacity, and the leadership he’s shown as a member of the administration in Flagstaff has prepared him for an appointment like this.”
NAU’s cross-country and track & field programs have established a dominant presence in the Big Sky Conference. The Lumberjack men’s cross-country team has secured 15 of the last 17 Big Sky Championships, while the women’s team has won six consecutive conference titles. Both programs consistently rank among the nation’s top 10.
Further demonstrating their success, both the NAU men’s and women’s track and field teams won the 2025 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships, completing a sweep of conference titles in cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field for the Lumberjacks.
