A man was shot and wounded Sunday morning at the entrance of a Carrs grocery store in West Anchorage. The incident occurred just after 8:30 a.m. at the store located on West Northern Lights Boulevard, according to the Anchorage Police Department.
The shooting is being investigated as an isolated incident, police say, though the circumstances surrounding it remain unclear. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body and was transported to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. This incident raises concerns about safety in public spaces and impacts shoppers and employees at the Aurora Village Carrs location.
Anchorage Police Department spokesperson Gina romero stated that officers “instantly secured the scene and closed one entrance” upon arrival. Detectives have made contact with individuals believed to be involved in the shooting, but as of Monday afternoon, no criminal charges had been filed.
A manager at the Carrs store referred inquiries to a corporate media representative who did not respond to a request for comment.
Romero, citing the ongoing investigation, declined to provide further details.
