La Liga Goalkeeper Jaume Doménech Retires Due to Family Health Issue
Madrid, Spain – La Liga goalkeeper jaume Doménech, 34, has announced his retirement from professional football citing a “health situation of a nearby relative.” The proclamation was made via an emotional post on Instagram.
Doménech spent over ten years in the Spanish league, most recently with Valencia CF, where his contract concluded at the end of last season. He expressed gratitude to clubs that showed interest in signing him during his consideration period, but ultimately decided to end his career.
“Today I would like to share a profound decision with all of you: I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer,” Doménech stated. “First of all, I think it is indeed necessary to thank all the clubs who turned to me this summer…and for thier patience while waiting for my final decision.”
He emphasized that his decision was driven by family needs. “Football is my life, my passion, but not everything happens as you want. I will hang my boots as of the health of a nearby relative,” he wrote. “My heart and the values that have shaped me as a person tell me that I have to be with you. I feel that it is now important to be close to the family and not far away.”
Throughout his career, Doménech primarily served as a backup goalkeeper, accumulating nearly 125 appearances for Valencia across all competitions. He played under former Manchester United player gary Neville during a challenging period for the club.
“The path of a professional footballer was exciting and ends in favor of a bigger thing today, but I would also like to say that I don’t say goodbye to football,” Doménech added. “I just close a chapter to open another.”
Fellow players have responded to the announcement with support. Carlos Soler, formerly of Valencia and PSG, commented, ”Those of us who shared the changing room with you know everything. We love you very, friend! This new phase will be great, I’m sure.
