ANKARA – (KUNA) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan affirmed Monday that Turkey firmly supports the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip amid escalating conflict, vowing to maintain this stance despite international pressure. The declaration came during a speech following a Turkish government meeting in Ankara, addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.Erdogan condemned the actions of the Israeli government led by Benjamin Netanyahu, stating, “Türkiye will maintain its fixed position despite all the pressure, threats and arrogance exerted by the criminal network that killed more than 64,000 innocent people.” This commitment to the Palestinian cause is expected to be a central theme in Turkey’s address at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly, where erdogan pledged to “be the voice of the palestinians.”
The Turkish president revealed that the situation in Gaza was a primary focus of his recent engagements at the Shanghai Cooperation Institution (SCO) summit, where he attended as a guest of honor and held discussions with chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He highlighted the SCO’s critically important global influence, noting its combined population of 3.8 billion and economic strength of $30 trillion.
“We are striving to enhance our cooperation with the organization and its member states on the basis of the principle of common profit,” Erdogan stated, signaling Turkey’s intent to strengthen ties with the SCO while continuing its advocacy for Palestinian rights.
