EIU Women’s Soccer Secures Road Victory Over Purdue Fort Wayne, 2-0

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Eastern Illinois women’s soccer earned a decisive 2-0 victory against Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday, October 1, 2023, bolstering their season record too 3-4-1. The win was highlighted by goalkeeper Ella Kratochvil’s eighth career shutout, elevating her to seventh place in program history for clean sheets.

This result marks a significant step for the Panthers as they navigate a challenging season, demonstrating their ability to perform effectively on the road. The team’s defensive strength, coupled wiht key offensive contributions, positions them favorably as they prepare for their next contest against Illinois State. The Panthers’ performance underscores their commitment to enhancement and pursuit of success within the competitive landscape of collegiate soccer.

The Panthers broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when She Dwyer converted a scoring chance assisted by Amelia mundo. Dwyer’s goal provided a crucial advantage for EIU, setting the tone for the remainder of the match.

Eastern Illinois extended their lead late in the game, with Abby Reinl finding the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season in the 89th minute. Reinl led the Panthers’ attack with four total shots in the contest.

EIU controlled the offensive tempo, registering ten shots while a strong defensive showing limited Purdue Fort Wayne to just two shots on goal. Kratochvil successfully defended both attempts, securing the shutout.

Purdue Fort Wayne’s record now stands at 1-4-1 following the defeat. Eastern Illinois will return to action with an upcoming road game against Illinois State.
