The award was presented for her single “On The Ground,” released in March 2021, and signals a shift in the VMAs’ acknowledgement of individual talent within the group-focused K-Pop industry.
Rosé accepted the award, expressing gratitude to her group members, Blackpink, and her fans, known as Blinks.She stated, “This is a huge honor, and I wouldn’t be here without my girls, Blackpink, and all of you Blinks.”
The “Best K-Pop” category, introduced in 2019, previously recognized groups such as BTS, Twice, and Blackpink.
