Samurai Japan U-18 Secure Three-game Win Streak, Defeat Cuba in World Cup Opener
NAHA, Okinawa – Samurai Japan’s U-18 team continued its dominant run at the WBSC U-18 Baseball world Cup, securing a decisive 3-0 victory over Cuba on Sunday, September 7th, and extending their winning streak to three games.Stellar pitching from Shimo Shigeken Shin and a key hit from Yokoyama Yu propelled Japan to the top of Group A.
The U-18 Baseball World Cup, held in Okinawa, Japan from September 5th to 14th, showcases the future stars of baseball. Japan’s strong start positions them favorably for advancement to the Super Round, beginning September 11th, and a potential championship run. This tournament is crucial for developing young talent and fostering international competition within the sport.
Shimo Shigeken Shin delivered a masterful performance on the mound, holding Cuba scoreless throughout the game. Yokoyama Yu broke the deadlock with a crucial hit, contributing to Japan’s three-run total. Earlier in the tournament,Japan defeated Italy 4-1 on September 5th and Korea 4-2 on September 6th.
Japan’s remaining Opening Round schedule includes a match against South Africa on September 8th and Puerto Rico on September 9th.
