Golden State Valkyries: WNBA Attendance Records Broken

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

The Golden State valkyries are making history in their first WNBA season, establishing new league benchmarks ‌for attendance. Announced Sunday,⁢ the expansion team has‍ sold ⁣out all 22 home games at the Chase Center, signaling a surge in popularity for the franchise and the league.

This unprecedented fan support translates to ‌an ⁣average attendance of 18,064 per game and a total season attendance of 397,408-figures that not only surpass previous WNBA records but also demonstrate the growing appeal of women’s professional⁤ basketball. The Valkyries‘ success is notably noteworthy as the first expansion team to reach the playoffs ⁤in their inaugural‌ season, with two regular-season games remaining on the⁢ schedule: Tuesday against the Seattle⁢ Storm and ⁣Thursday versus the Minnesota Lynx, both on‍ the road.

Prior to 2025, the Indiana Fever held the WNBA attendance record, drawing 340,715 fans across the 2024 season with an ‍average of 17,036 per game, a boost attributed to the arrival of Caitlin Clark. The Valkyries’ numbers ⁤have eclipsed that mark, and they aren’t alone in raising the bar. The 2025 Indiana Fever (349,313 total attendance) and the 2025 New York liberty (341,575 total attendance) now rank second and third, respectively, in overall attendance.

Golden State’s current record stands at 23-19, securing their place in the⁤ postseason. The team’s rapid success is a ‌testament to both the⁣ Bay Area’s keen embrace of‌ the Valkyries⁢ and the broader momentum building within the‍ WNBA.
