Gary Marchand will retire as interim CEO of Greenwood (Miss.) Leflore Hospital on Jan.1, the hospital announced.
Mr. Marchand successfully guided the hospital to achieve Rural community Hospital Exhibition (RCHD) status, as detailed in a Sept. 4 news release from the board of commissioners. He assumed the interim CEO role in 2022, and prior to that, served as interim CEO from October 2019 to mid-October 2020, according to a hospital spokesperson.
“I returned on an interim basis to help the hospital through turbulent times in the post-pandemic period,” Mr. Marchand said in a statement to Becker’s on Sept. 5. “Now that the hospital has achieved RCHD status and financial stability, I feel the time is right for the hospital to move forward with the recruitment of a permanent CEO to serve the hospital in the coming years.”
The RCHD designation will generate increased revenue from Medicare inpatients and enable the launch of a swing bed service line,Mr. Marchand explained in a Sept. 3 memo to staff. the programme, established by the centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, aims to fortify rural hospitals facing financial challenges.
