JapanMint Celebrates⁢ 40 years of Dragon⁢ Ball with Commemorative Coin sets

Tokyo ⁤- The Japanese Mint is releasing two limited-edition commemorative coin sets honoring the 40th anniversary of Akira Toriyama’s globally renowned manga and anime‌ series, Dragon Ball. The sets, featuring ​designs of the‍ iconic‌ protagonist Goku, will⁢ be available through a lottery system due to anticipated high demand.

The first​ set, priced at 16,500 ‍yen‍ (approximately $110 USD/95.50 EUR),​ includes‍ six legal tender⁤ coins ranging from⁣ 1 to 500 yen, alongside a silver⁢ medal depicting childhood ⁢Goku. The medal’s reverse showcases the ‌40th-anniversary logo with an⁣ iridescent finish. Limited to ‌25,000 units, the set is housed‌ in a leather case.A second,​ more affordable set features a red⁣ copper ⁢medal with adult⁤ Goku on the ​obverse ‍and the four-star dragon ball on the reverse, ⁣priced at 3,100 yen (approximately $20 USD/18 EUR) ⁢with a production run of 60,000 units.

These “proof” coins are specially⁤ minted to enhance surface ⁢brightness and detail relief, according to the japanese Mint. ⁤Applications⁤ will⁢ be accepted via postal mail ‍and the Mint’s online store from september 6th to ​September 25th, 2024. The ‍40th-anniversary milestone ⁣was ‌officially observed‌ on November 20, 2024, ​with commemorative releases ⁢continuing into the following year.
