LOS ANGELES - Howard Stern has delayed his return to SiriusXM, pushing back a highly anticipated proclamation regarding the future of The Howard Stern Show to Monday, September 8. The postponement follows weeks of speculation fueled by reports that SternS contract wiht the satellite radio platform was nearing its end.
Stern had been scheduled to address the swirling rumors on Tuesday morning, after SiriusXM ran promos promising a “big reveal.” Though,the show’s social accounts announced the delay early Tuesday,stating simply,”Howard Stern will now speak Monday,September 8,” and urging listeners to “stay tuned.” The delay adds another layer of uncertainty to the future of the radio legend’s show, which has been a mainstay of SiriusXM’s programming for nearly two decades.
The uncertainty began last month when The Sun reported that Stern’s show was set to end due to stalled contract negotiations between Stern and SiriusXM. Stern afterward responded by releasing a dramatic promo that acknowledged the speculation, stating, ”The tabloids have spoken: Howard Stern fired, canceled, is it really ‘Bye-Bye Booey’? Chaos is swirling at The howard Stern Show.” The promo continued, promising to answer “all the questions” and tell “all the truths” on September 2.
The Hollywood Reporter has previously noted that Stern’s future has been subject to speculation before, but he has consistently reached agreements to remain on the air. the latest delay suggests that a new deal may still be under negotiation, or that the situation is more precarious than previously understood.
