Liverpool Shatters‌ Premier League ⁤Transfer Record⁣ with £125 Million Isak⁣ Deal

LIVERPOOL, England - September 1, 2025 – Liverpool Football Club‍ today announced the signing of Swedish striker Alexander Isak ‍from Newcastle United⁢ for a fee of £125 million, a new Premier League⁣ record.⁣ The total cost‍ of the transfer rises to £130 million when including £5 million in solidarity‌ payments distributed to Isak’s former ⁣youth clubs.

Isak, ‌25, has signed a long-term contract with Liverpool, reportedly spanning six⁤ years, and underwent ‍a medical examination⁣ prior to finalizing the deal. The transfer concludes weeks of‍ negotiation, with Liverpool ⁣initially having⁤ a £110 million offer rejected by Newcastle. Isak reportedly ⁤expressed a strong desire to join the Anfield club and⁢ had‌ been training ⁣away ⁢from the‍ Newcastle first team in anticipation of the move.

“I think I can offer⁤ a lot, and I can ‍improve,” Isak stated after signing. “I am an attacker, ⁤but I want to⁣ help the team differently than just goals.” He will wear the number nine shirt for Liverpool.

The forward ‍explained his enthusiasm for joining the club, saying, “I’m excited to have this chance. It was a long way, but I’m excited to be part of this team, the ⁣whole club and what it means. I want to win everything here.”

Newcastle United have already begun to reinvest the funds, securing German striker ‍Nick Woltemade from stuttgart for a fee potentially reaching €90 ⁤million‍ (approximately £2.2‌ billion crowns) including bonuses. They are ⁤also set to add Yoane Wissa ⁢from Brentford for £50 million plus a potential £5 ⁣million ⁢in bonuses, according to Sky Sports.

Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 and was a‍ prolific goalscorer in the Premier League last season, finishing ‌second in‍ the league’s scoring charts with ⁢23 goals – ⁢trailing only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

This marks the second time this transfer window that Liverpool has broken the British transfer record. In June,‍ the club secured the services of German international Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen for £100 million (potentially⁤ rising to £116 million with bonuses). ‌

Liverpool’s total spending on new‌ players‌ this ‍summer is estimated to be around⁣ £416 million (approximately £11.74 billion crowns), with Hugo Ecitic, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi ⁢Mamardašvili, aarmin Pécsi, and Giovanni Leoni also joining ⁢the squad.
