WhatsApp Adds timers for Self-Destructing messages
WhatsApp’s latest Android update, version 2.25.24.18, introduces a timer function for it’s self-deleting message feature, allowing users to set a specific expiration period beyond the existing 24-hour option. Previously, messages could only be set to disappear after 24 hours; the update, first reported by Wabtainfo, now offers choices of one hour, twelve hours, one day, seven days, or ninety days.
WhatsApp displays a warning when selecting shorter durations – one or twelve hours – stating,”Shorter times can lead to missing the messages.” Once a timer is set, all messages within the chat will automatically delete after the chosen period.
The update is currently available to users participating in the WhatsApp Android beta program.Enrollment is possible through the Google Play Store by searching for WhatsApp and scrolling down to find the beta program option, provided spaces are available. After joining, users can update the app to receive the new functionality.
the feature aims to enhance both message security and user control over chat history.
