Medellín Ends Eight-Year Palmaseca Drought wiht 3-1 Victory Over Cali

Palmira, Valle del cauca – Independiente Medellín ⁤defeated Deportivo Cali 3-1 at ⁤Estadio Palmaseca on Wednesday, September 3rd, marking their first win ‌at the venue in eight years.The match began following a minute of silence to honor a fan who died en route to the stadium, with another fan receiving medical attention from Valle del Cauca health services.

The​ game was​ initially even, though tensions rose, resulting in nine yellow cards – seven for Medellín (DIM) and⁣ two for Cali. Despite early offensive pressure from Medellín, they were unable to ⁣score in the first half. Goalkeeper Éder Chaux proved crucial for⁢ DIM, thwarting several attacks from the Cali side.

A⁣ turning point arrived in the 39th⁢ minute when Cali’s Fabián Castillo was shown a red card after a VAR review of a foul on Fainer Torijano, deemed a dangerous tackle‍ with studs up.

Playing with a man advantage, Medellín capitalized quickly. Baldomero Perlaza scored just three minutes into the second half, followed by Francisco Fydriszewski, who netted his sixth goal of ⁣the Clausura Tournament, tying compatriot Luciano Pons in the race for the league’s top scorer.

Cali managed to pull one back in the final ten ⁣minutes through a ⁣penalty converted by Avilés Hurtado, awarded​ after a foul by Jhon Palacios and confirmed by⁣ VAR. ‍Hurtado appeared ‍to suffer a muscle injury late in the match.

The win propels Medellín to 19 points, ⁤solidifying their⁢ position in second place in the Liga standings. Their next match is a highly anticipated “Clásico Paisa” against Atlético Nacional on Sunday, September 7th, at home.
