Socialist Party signals Intent to Lead Goverment, challenges Prime Minister on September 8 Vote
Blois, France – August 29, 2025 – The Socialist Party (PS) today declared its readiness to govern France, openly aiming to replace the current administration following a planned confidence vote in Parliament on September 8. The vote, initiated by the prime Minister, is widely expected to fail, wiht the PS, along with environmentalist, “rebellious,” communist, and even National Rally factions, anticipated to vote against confidence.
Speaking at the PS’s summer university in Blois, party leaders confirmed their intention to trigger the fall of the government, a strategy mirroring their approach after the summer 2024 legislative elections where the New Popular Front (NFP) alliance emerged victorious.
“It is up to the left to lead this government and this project, to work it with Parliament where there will be amendments. We cannot continue in this immobility,” stated Carole Delga, President of Occitania, outlining the party’s position.
The PS’s move comes just two days before a planned nationwide mobilization by the “Blocons everything” movement, which the party publicly supports. The confidence vote is expected to open the door for the left to form a new governing coalition.
