Egyptian Authorities Disrupt Major Drug Trafficking Operation, Seize $3.5 Million Worth of Pharmaceuticals
QALYUBIA GOVERNORATE, EGYPT – Egyptian Ministry of Interior officials have dismantled a sophisticated drug trafficking network and seized illicit pharmaceutical materials and tablets valued at approximately 350 million Egyptian pounds (roughly $3.5 million USD as of August 26, 2025). The operation, a proactive strike against criminal elements, targeted a seven-member group involved in the manufacture and distribution of narcotics.
the examination, conducted by the Anti-Drug, Weapons and Ammunition Sector in coordination with other relevant ministry agencies, revealed that the criminal organization had established two clandestine manufacturing facilities within the Qalyubia Governorate. These facilities were dedicated to the production of illegal narcotics intended for widespread distribution.
To evade detection, the traffickers utilized two ambulances belonging to a private company as mobile distribution units, camouflaging their activities under the guise of legitimate medical transport. Authorities tracked the group’s movements and prepared targeted ambushes.
During the raid, officials seized the manufactured narcotics, the ambulances used for distribution, and apprehended all seven individuals identified as key members of the trafficking ring. The Ministry of Interior has not yet released the names of those arrested, citing ongoing investigative procedures.
