Jonas Vingegaard, the two-time Tour de France champion, seized the overall lead in the 80th Vuelta a España with a commanding performance on the 2nd stage, finishing atop Limone Piemonte. The Danish rider overcame a mid-race crash to claim victory after 159.5 kilometers, placing Giulio ciccone of Italy and David Gaudu of France in second and third positions, respectively.
The decisive stage featured a 9.9-kilometer climb with an average gradient of 5.2 percent. Prior to the ascent, Vingegaard and several members of his Visma-Lease a Bike team were involved in a crash on rain-slicked roads approximately 27 kilometers from the finish line. Vingegaard managed to rejoin the peloton after a brief delay, sustaining minor abrasions to his left arm.
