Lebanon Faces Intense Heatwave, Fire Risk High

Beirut, Lebanon – Lebanon is bracing for several days of intense heat, with temperatures soaring to 45.2 degrees Celsius (113.36 Fahrenheit) in Zahle, according to the Meteorological Authority for the New. Coastal areas, including Beirut, are experiencing 32 degrees Celsius (89.6 Fahrenheit) coupled with high humidity, exacerbating the heat index.

The Department of Estimates at the Meteorological Authority, under the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, forecasts that the impact of hot air masses will intensify across Lebanon, particularly inland, over the next two days.While Monday will offer relative relief,the heatwave is expected to persist through friday before gradually subsiding.

Authorities have issued warnings about the increased risk of wildfires in forested areas due to the dry conditions and high temperatures. Residents are urged to exercise caution and report any signs of fire promptly to local emergency services.

Weather Forecast:

  • Sunday: Partially cloudy to little clouds with no significant temperature change.A slight decrease in temperature is expected in mountainous and coastal regions.
  • Monday: Low clouds with a slight temperature decrease in the mountains and inland areas. Coastal temperatures will remain stable with limited humidity reduction. Local fog is possible on medium-height areas in the morning.
  • Tuesday: Low clouds with no temperature changes expected in the mountains and inland. Temperatures will remain above seasonal averages, while rising along the coast.

This heatwave comes during a period of ongoing economic and political instability in Lebanon, possibly straining resources and impacting vulnerable populations. The Lebanese goverment has not yet announced specific measures to address the heatwave, but citizens are advised to stay hydrated, seek shade, and avoid strenuous activity during peak hours.
