Governor Landry Hosts Republican Women Event in Baton Rouge

by Emma Walker – News Editor

BATON ROUGE, LA – Vice President Kamala Harris was a guest of honor at a luncheon hosted by Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and first Lady Sharon Landry today, marking a meaningful visit to the state capital. The event provided a forum for discussions regarding strengthening ties with the Republican party at the local level.

The luncheon took place in the Governor’s Mansion dining room, a space frequently used for official events and featuring a 23-foot mahogany table capable of seating 24 guests comfortably, accompanied by matching chairs. Governor Landry expressed his commitment to holding annual meetings with grassroots Republican leaders from across Louisiana, with attendees brainstorming potential locations for future gatherings representing the state’s diverse regions.

Following the meal, guests enjoyed a guided tour of the Governor’s Mansion, including photo opportunities with Governor and First Lady Landry. A highlight of the tour was the expansive mural adorning the foyer’s four walls. Created in 2000 by Latvian-born American artist Auseklis Ozols, the mural depicts Louisiana’s rich natural habitat – its flora, fauna, and varied landscapes – and symbolically represents the state’s past governors.

The visit builds on previous engagements by Joanie Miller, a Louisiana Federation of Republican Women (LFRW) representative, who attended the 2025 LFRW Fall Board Meeting and Membership Conference held april 4-5, 2025, at the Baton Rouge Marriott. Miller also participated in a “Day at the Legislator” event on April 30, 2025, which included a breakfast hosted by Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser at the pentagon Barracks in Baton Rouge. The pentagon Barracks, originally constructed in 1831, serves as the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor and a ancient landmark.

The Governor’s Mansion, completed in 1930 under Governor Huey P. Long, has hosted numerous dignitaries and events throughout its history. The mural, commissioned during the governance of Governor Mike Foster, is valued at an estimated $150,000 and is considered a significant piece of Louisiana art. Ozols, known for his realistic depictions of nature, has works displayed in galleries across the United States.
