BOOM, Belgium – Tracks co-created during TikTok’s inaugural songwriter camp at Tomorrowland festival were played to hundreds of thousands of attendees this past weekend, marking a significant win for the platform’s music strategy and its SoundOn initiative. The collaboration between TikTok and Tomorrowland Music saw a group of artists, DJs, and producers converge in Antwerp, Belgium, from July 17-21 to compose new music specifically designed to resonate on TikTok.
The songwriter camp, a partnership between TikTok’s SoundOn EMEA and Tomorrowland Music, resulted in several tracks being debuted on Tomorrowland’s MainStage during the festival, held July 21-30 in Boom, Belgium. The initiative aimed to foster creativity and generate viral music moments directly from the festival grounds.
TikTok has confirmed that additional songs from the camp will be released in the coming weeks, including a track from producer Pegassi, scheduled for release on August 15. The camp participants included established artists alongside emerging talent, creating a diverse range of sounds.
Nichal Sethi, Head of SoundOn EMEA, highlighted the success of the project: “At SoundOn we love to bring creative ideas to life in partnership with artists and the industry, which is why we were so excited to work with Tomorrowland Music to make the songwriter camp a reality. It was great to combine some of the very best SoundOn artists, DJs and producers with some amazing, fresh talent that we were working with for the first time. hearing the tracks played from the MainStage for the first time was amazing and they are already breaking records both on and off the platform.”
This event underscores TikTok’s growing investment in live music and creator support. The platform recently announced a partnership with iHeartRadio for Next up: Live Music, a live streaming singing competition designed to elevate unsigned artists with at least 50,000 followers. The competition offers a platform for artists to gain wider exposure and perhaps launch their careers.
Further expanding its live features,TikTok launched LIVE Fan Club in July, coinciding with the proclamation that 130 million creators worldwide now broadcast LIVE content daily. This feature allows creators to offer exclusive content and perks to paying subscribers, fostering deeper connections with their audiences.
The broader live streaming market is experiencing ample growth. Valued at $38.87 billion in 2022, the global market is projected to reach approximately $256.56 billion by 2032, according to data from custom Market Insights. This growth is fueled by increasing internet access, advancements in streaming technology, and a rising demand for interactive entertainment.
TikTok’s foray into live music events dates back to February 2021, when Justin Bieber performed a full-length concert exclusively on the platform, a first for a single artist. This event demonstrated TikTok’s potential as a venue for large-scale musical performances and paved the way for future collaborations like the Tomorrowland songwriter camp.
