Chardon Art Festival Celebrates 44 Years, Showcasing Local Talent and Inspiring Creativity

Chardon, Ohio – August 3, 2024 – The 44th annual Chardon Art Festival drew over 80 artists and an estimated 5,000 attendees to Chardon square today, transforming the historic downtown into a vibrant hub of artistic expression. The festival, a cornerstone event for the community, ran from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering a diverse range of artwork and fostering a sense of local pride.
Artists from Chardon, across Ohio, and the surrounding region displayed their creations, encompassing various mediums such as woodwork, stained glass, jewelry, and painting. The event provides a crucial platform for artists to connect with the public and showcase their skills.
A Community Catalyst
“Art definitely draws people to the community,” stated sylvia McGee,President of The Chardon Square Association. “It helps make Chardon a pretty special place.” The Chardon Square Association, a non-profit organization, organizes the festival annually as a key fundraising initiative to enhance the beauty and appeal of the town square.
Funds raised from the festival contribute directly to improvements within Chardon square, including the installation of benches, the construction of the clock tower completed in 2018, and the annual Christmas decorations that transform the square into a festive winter wonderland. all enhancements are purchased directly by the Chardon Square Association.
From Physician to Painter: Simone Majetich’s Inspiring Journey
This year’s festival highlighted the remarkable story of Simone Majetich, a local family physician and mother who discovered her passion for art during the 2020 pandemic. Majetich turned to finger painting with oils as a creative outlet during a challenging time.
“I was looking for a creative outlet at the time,” Majetich explained. Her unique style, characterized by vibrant landscapes and animal portraits, has quickly gained recognition.Alongside her artwork, Majetich is also showcasing a series of children’s books she authored and illustrated.
Majetich hopes her journey will inspire others to embrace their own creativity, irrespective of their background or perceived limitations. “You don’t have to do something majorly important in this life,” she shared.”Just do what you love, and you might come across other people you touch in small, little ways.”
