Southwest monsoon to brings rains over parts of Luzon

Monsoon Triggers Scattered Showers Across Luzon

Southwest Wind System Affects Northern Regions, Poses Flood Risk

Scattered rains are expected to sweep across parts of the Philippines as the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” intensifies its influence on northern Luzon, according to the latest weather advisory.

Northern Luzon Faces Disruptive Weather

Batanes anticipates cloudy skies accompanied by scattered showers and thunderstorms, driven by the persistent southwest monsoon. This weather pattern carries the potential for moderate to heavy downpours, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.

The Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the remainder of Cagayan Valley are also under the monsoon’s influence, with partly cloudy to cloudy conditions and isolated rain showers or thunderstorms predicted.

Scattered rains are expected due to the southwest monsoon.

Metro Manila and Other Areas See Localized Storms

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms originating from localized weather systems. Residents are cautioned about the possibility of flash floods and landslides during periods of severe thunderstorms.

Maritime Warnings Issued

Seafarers should be aware of the conditions at sea. Extreme Northern Luzon will experience moderate to strong winds, leading to moderate to rough seas. Other regions will face lighter breezes, with slight to moderate sea conditions.

Recent heavy rainfall in other parts of Asia has highlighted the destructive potential of monsoon systems. For instance, devastating floods in Pakistan in 2022, exacerbated by monsoon rains, displaced millions and caused widespread damage, underscoring the importance of weather advisories.
